About six months after I became a Literature Evangelist, I felt impressed by the Lord to call upon Loren, a cousin of mine, who lived about 60 miles away. My impression was that I should let them know about the wonderful books we sell. I received this impression repeatedly. Although I considered it, I kept putting it off. About three months later, as I was traveling to another city in the opposite direction of my cousin's home, I approached the on-rap to the Interstate Highway and there I saw an unusual looking garbage truck (probably the cleanest one I had ever seen) coming off of the Interstate Roadway. The cab was red with white letters that read "Loren Fischer Disposal." I said, "All right, Lord, I have your signal! I will go and talk with Loren."
When I located Loren, we visited briefly, and then I shared a Bible Story brochure with him. He invited me to stop by his home to see him there. As we parted, I Said, "God Bless you Loren!" He told me later that he not forgotten what I said, and he commented, "It sure didn't sound like the person he used to know."
I presented our literature to Loren and his wife, Nancy, and they readily purchased the Bible Story Books and the Bible Reference Library. Loren asked if we were offering a video bible study course on prophecy and explained it to them. They readily purchased the videos as well. Loren's brother, Lonnie, and his mother and father also purchased books from me, and they accepted Bible studies. After studtying several subjects with Loren and Nancy, they asked me where I got the answer key to all these bible questions. I replied, "They are all right here in the Bible."
After Loren and Nancy studied the Sabbath, they understood that the 7th day, Saturday, is indeeed the Sabbath, but they said: "There is no church around here that holds worship on Saturday." I replied, "Oh yes, there is. I am attending one! Would you like to come and check it out?" Loren looked at his wife. Together they hesitated for just a moment, and then agreed to come and visit. Of course, they made it clear to me that they would not be joining my church. I assured them that was OK. Loren attended crch on Sabbath. There was also a baptism in the afternoon that he attended, and he really enjoyed the services. The next Sabbath, his wife and children also attended church with him. On the way home, his son asked him, "Is that church going to be open tommorrow?" Lore n replied, "No but why do you ask?" He replied, "Because I really like it there".
As it turned out, Loren and Nancy never did return to their old church. They had found their new church home within the Adventist congregation, and today they are happily baptized members. They have three sons, and the oldest one has already been baptized as well. Since then, Loren's brother, Lonnie, has also been baptized. Interestingly, their parents, with whom I wa also studying the Bible, tried to dissuade them. At one of my visits to the parents home, their pastor was there waiting for me but it was all right. It turned out well. After all, with God being for us who can be against us?
To God be the glory! He is the one who enables us to sell these books, and He shows us the homes where we need to visit. We receive great blessings from working closely with Him.
I am so thankful that God has called me to be a Literature Evangelist. I find that leading people to Christ is my greatest joy this side of heaven.
